How to read these
- A category is a basket of similar items — all the potions, all the ores. Its percentage is what the whole basket did, weighted by how much of each actually traded.
- The green and red bar is how many of its items went up and how many went down. Mostly green means the basket is rising together; a big move over a short green bar means one or two items are carrying it, and it is marked Spike.
- 7 days and 30 days show which way each category has been heading, not just today. Open one to see its month against the whole market, the groups inside it and the items moving against it.

How each index is calculated
Each index is value-weighted. Every item in the category is priced at its current Grand Exchange mid price and again at its 24-hour average, and both are weighted by how many units actually traded in that window. The move is the ratio between the two, so a category is carried by what people are really buying and selling in it and an untraded item cannot move it.
Weighting by traded quantity is what makes these numbers indices rather than averages: 50,000 nature runes count for more than one untouched third-age piece, in exactly the proportion the market gave them. Gold traded, in an opened category, is how much of it changed hands in the last 24 hours.
Across the whole Grand Exchange 3.2T gp changed hands in the last 24 hours, and these indices account for 96% of it. The rest is items the classifier does not recognise, which are left out rather than guessed at.
Category FAQ
What are OSRS market categories?
They group every tradeable Old School RuneScape item by what it is — resources, consumables, ammunition, skilling supplies, processing goods, combat gear and accessories. FlipHub turns each group into a market index so you can see whether a whole part of the economy is rising or falling, rather than checking items one at a time.
How is each OSRS category index calculated?
Each index is value-weighted. Every item in the category is priced at its current Grand Exchange mid price and again at its 24-hour average, and both are weighted by how many units actually traded in the last 24 hours. The index move is the ratio between the two, so items people genuinely trade move the index and untraded items do not.
Why is the F2P index counted separately?
Free-to-play is a different cut of the same market rather than a category of its own. An Iron bar is a resource and it is also free-to-play, so the F2P index deliberately overlaps the others and is never added to them.
Which OSRS items are in each category?
Each sub-index on this page lists its heaviest constituents by traded value, and every one links to that item's live price page. Opening a sub-index on the dashboard filters the full board to exactly the items it contains.
